Abstract

U radu se, kroz analizu određenih refleksivnih pasaža dve knjige mađarskog romanopisca Šandora Maraija, ukazuje na značaj koji je ovaj pisac pridavao poziciji i odgovornosti intelektualca u kriznim vremenima. Nijedna od dve analizirane knjige nije roman u klasičnom smislu. Reč je o nefikcionalnim tekstovima putopisno-dnevničkog karaktera. U naslovu obe Maraijeve knjige pojavljuje se reč patrola. Tu reč ovde bi trebalo shvatiti metaforično, kao obavezu koju autor samome sebi nameće, da permanentno vrši svojevrsnu smotru intelektualnog pejzaža svoje epohe, ali i da stalno preispituje vlastite propuste. Za Maraija, koji je dobar deo svoje karijere radio i kao novinar i dopisnik iz inostranstva raznih mađarskih listova, angažovanost, naročito u kriznim vremenima, naprosto mora biti modus operandi svakog modernog pisca. Činjenica da je Marai pripadnik malog naroda iz Srednje Evrope, koja se kao kulturološki entitet već vekovima tendenciozno gura na marginu, čini njegovu poziciju posebno osetljivom i ranjivom.
